In 2006, Tribune Media Services Inc., with headquarters in Chicago, initiated a site search to locate property capable of housing new offices for their operations. TMS had recently completed a merger with a competitor in the Glens Falls area, and were seeking a long term solution to consolidate operations and increase efficiencies. TMS and their new acquisition were operating out of two older buildings in the area on opposite sides of the community. Corporate was actively looking at sites to merge these operations both outside of the Capital District region and outside of NYS.
To retain operations locally and grow the business, EDC was tasked with finding a suitable site that would meet the demands of a consolidated operation center. These demands included redundant sources of power, high-performance fiber optic and telecommunications options, at a site very close to I-87. Power redundancy is critical since TMS is a 24/7 operation servicing multi-national accounts which demand 100% up time. The winning site had to accommodate 60,000 SF and parking for 500 cars. Access to I-87 was required to address workforce commuting patterns and travel time to/from Albany International Airport for key staff and corporate executives.
EDC Warren County provided assistance with delivering a site that met all the company's criteria. EDC worked to expedite permits, deliver Empire Zone benefits, fast track approvals and identify qualified developers that could meet the company's aggressive time line. The result is TMS in operation in a new state of the art 60,000 s.f. facility at a cost of $9 million dollars plus $2.5 million for equipment and fit up. Today, TMS is providing television listing services for TV and online outlets internationally, and employs 425 knowledge workers with an annual payroll exceeding $21 million, in it's Glens Falls location.
