Headquartered in GCEDC’s shovel ready park, Apple Tree Acres in Bergen, NY, Liberty Pumps is a leading U.S. manufacturer of pumping products for ground water and wastewater removal in residential and commercial applications. With a focus on innovative product design, their wide range of pump styles includes; sump pumps, sewage pumps, effluent pumps, drain pumps, grinder pumps, complete pre-assembled sewage packages, and pump accessories. Utilizing a vast network of Plumbing Wholesalers and Pump Distributors, Liberty's products are relied on by hundreds of professional contractors each day.
Liberty Pumps had thrived in Genesee County’s Empire Zone and due to its growth potential, needed to add research and development capabilities to increase its product line.
The GCEDC was able to provide “One Stop Shopping” assistance, helping the company with the purchase of nearly 13 acres of shovel ready land to address current and future needs and assisted with private placement of a $6M tax exempt Industrial Revenue Bond (IRB) with a local bank. The company was then able to refinance existing debt while nearly doubling its size by constructing a 64,000 sq ft expansion. 6,000 sq ft of the new facility was dedicated to research and development in order to expand the company’s product line. The GCEDC also helped Liberty Pumps utilize the Empire Zone, creating 15 new jobs, bringing the company’s total employment to 97. That effort included a Payment In Lieu Of Taxes (PILOT) which is an Empire Zone based scheduled property tax abatement. The GCEDC also provided mortgage and sales tax exemptions and even assisted the company with its ground breaking ceremony and publicity needs. Liberty Pumps has been named to Rochester’s Top 100 companies for several years and to Inc Magazine’s Top 5,000 twice.
