Bosco and Geers Food Market Expansion

main_imageBosco and Geers Food Market is a family-owned, full-service, retail grocery store in the city of Oswego which features a deli, bakery hot foods, meats, fresh produce and specialty items such as their "famous Italian sausage" based on a family recipe. The store, which opened in 1962, was sold by owners Joseph and Barbara Bosco to their children Theresa, Joseph and John in 1992, and has seen steady sales growth for the past several years. For the past three years, gross sales have been more than $2.4 million.

Project Need (problem)

Limited floor space has hindered the owners' ability to provide new products, advertise specials and provide additional space for seasonal items or expanded product offerings. The store was also in need of renovation and new equipment to remain competitive in the local market.

Project Solution

With the assistance of an SBA 504 loan through Operation Oswego County and assistance from other regional partners such as the County of Oswego IDA, HSBC Bank and the City of Oswego Community Development Office, Bosco and Geers completed a 2,000 square foot, $750,000 expansion and renovation project which included a new façade, additions to the meat, deli and bakery sections, new registers utilizing scanning technolgy, and ATM and bottle return machines.
