2025 Summer IDA Academy

The IDA Academy provides regular training for Industrial Development Agency (IDA) staff and executives on a variety of issues to help operate an IDA office more efficiently and effectively. The Summer 2025 Academy will offer training sessions that include best practices, tools available to IDAs, and public policy that impacts IDA authority and operation. The NYSEDC will administer this program in partnership with IDA members, state agencies, and other industry experts.
In addition, the New York State Authorities Budget Office (ABO) will provide a Board Training Session for IDA board members. Completion of the session satisfies the requirement that directors must participate in state-approved training as required by Section 2824 of Public Authority Law regarding their legal, fiduciary, financial, and ethical responsibilities as board members of an authority.

IDA Report Findings by NYS Office of the State Comptroller
In June, State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released his annual IDA Performance Report, summarizing the data for the fiscal year ending in 2023. His office notes that "IDAs are one of the most powerful financial incentive tools available for local governments to attract and retain businesses as well as to increase job opportunities in their communities." New York State Authorities Budget Office: Training Session for IDA Board Members and Staff
Board members of public authorities are required to participate in State-approved training on their role and responsibilities within one year of appointment to a public authority board. Holly Palmer Sharp from the New York State Authorities Budget Office will conduct this training.
